Pekelo's Hawaiian 'Ukulele Method offers a comprehensive approach to
fingerpicking technique that is grounded in both fundamentals of music theory and revered Hawaiian songs--including songs of our own generation by prolific songwriter Kenneth Makuakane as well as old standards. The systematic approach is appropriate to experienced strummers as well as those just starting out on the instrument that is
so central to the sound of Hawaiian music. Infused with aloha, these volumes gently guide players with sparkling arrangements that grow in complexity as new concepts and techniques are added in. E ho'oulu--Nurture your 'ukulele abilities with Pekelo! |

I found Pekelo's Hawaiian 'Ukulele Method book extremely well put together and intuitive. Pekelo took a different angle which I found refreshing. He used a contemporary Hawaiian approach to teaching the 'ukulele, by combining fingerpicking technique with great traditional Hawaiian music rich in history and an introduction to some historic as well as contemporary Hawaiian musicians. Pekelo steps you through reading tablature, understanding the rhythm portion of standard notation and then progressing you step by step through more sophisticated techniques. Pekelo's books are very thorough, well thought out, easy to read, and enjoyable. |
